The second best day of Bucky’s life is the day he marries Steve. The best is the day he finds that video of Steve dressed as Captain America lecturing high schoolers about safe sex.
Ok so I’ve been playing for 18 years and i’m a string teacher. Can i just say how IMPORTANT it is for young kids to see a BLACK, MALE-PRESENTING PERSON playing, nae, SHREDDING on a violin? I’ve know maybe 5 black people who played stringed instruments throughout my schooling and teaching (predumably because i’m an upper middle class white woman). In districts where the population is predominantly black, funding is always low, so the instruments are crappy. Kids quit, or the program is dismantled. I’ve seen very few professional string players who are black.
Obviously there are black string players. We just don’t see them because they “don’t look like” string players.
This person is the real deal. They were clearly trained, and seems to have some fiddle training as well. How cool is that?
This kid of mine has officially had the time of her life.
Bucky Barnes is her favorite super hero, has been since she was four. So, of course, when I heard that Sebastian Stan was coming to Houston for Fandemic, I signed myself up to buy her a VIP pass as a gift for her 7th birthday.
Today, she got to meet him; and he was everything that either of us ever could have hoped for.
During the photo op time slot, a random fire alarm pull left the staff and Sebastian scrambling to make up for lost time by speeding through. But, all that she wanted was for him to pick her up. She’s been talking about it for days already, and still was even while we were standing in line. Without so much as a blink from Seb, that wish was granted.
Not only had he evidently overheard her name, and decided to use it to surprise her by calling her over for a hug, but he all but slung her up in to his arms for our photo. I told him before we left the area that meeting him had been her birthday gift, and his face absolutely melted.
By the time of the autographs, everything was back on schedule, and he had more time to get a little personal.
Now, Alexia was very nervous about meeting her hero. Nervous enough, as it were, to write him a love letter in case she was too anxious to actually speak. It came in handy, since she all but froze in a grin.
He read over her little letter, and seemingly melted in to a puddle, before reaching across the table to hold her hand and thank her for being his fan.
Then came the panel.
It’s a clip already being shared around from my instagram and twitter posts. Sebastian thanks her for the note, and next thing you know, this kid of mine is bolting towards him and slinging her arms around his neck. It goes without explanation, really. His kindness shines through in the most adorable moment of bonding between a kid and her hero. What was missed, however, was the little details; like how they were already making little faces at one another when he first sat down, before the questions ever started, and how he wouldn’t even let me attempt to call her away. The things that had my child bouncing in her seat the whole drive home.
Out of a room full of hundreds of people, this man took the time and energy to make a little girl feel so infinitely special, and I will be forever grateful for his wonderful spirit.
Omg. I’m melting. Thank you for sharing. He really is a ray of sunshine
