Some of the best signs from school students across the country striking from school today over the governments inaction on climate change as part of School Strike 4 Climate.
Hey! You voting in the Victorian election (24th November)? Wondering who to vote for? Well here’s a handy tool where you rank the importance of certain areas (environment, roads, rural, etc) and then pick which policy options you like the most and it’ll show you which parties those policies belong to and the party you most align with!
one of my fave things about australian politics is that it’s almost entirely made up of old white men who have no idea what they’re doing, no-one trusts them, they’re all racist fools who put us in debt, every single one of them has been thoroughly humiliated on tv at least once
and then there’s penny wong, a left-wing malaysian lesbian who is quite literally the only australian politician i know of never to have made a fool of herself. she’s never lost a debate. she is five feet of rage, climate change action, and whoop-ass. everyone i know wants her to be prime minister but she’s literally said she doesn’t think australia could handle it. i love her
“It’s impossible to vote for the LNP in good conscience. My father fought the stupid and the stupid won.“ – Alex Turnbull.
The Coalition is beholden to the financial interests of the coal industry and now that his dad is no longer PM, Alex has decided to start being vocal about it.
“Times like this you have to decide what your first loyalty is: party or county? I’m going with country. We need donations reform, federal ICAC and sane energy policy NOW.” Said Turnbull on twitter.
The Wentworth by-election is on October 6th and could determine the fate of the Scott Morrison government as the Coalition currently only has a 1 seat majority. If Labor wins it they’ll either need to form a minority government or go to a general election sooner than they planned, spelling disaster for Scott Morrison.
Oh boy if you’re mad about the US separating children from their parents, putting people in camps, and having a zero tolerance policy towards asylum seekers that has led to deliberate extensive cruelty as a futile deterrent wait until you hear about Australia.
Young refugees who have been held on Nauru for much of their teenage years have spoken out in despair about their situation, as a severe child mental health crisis unfolds around them.
One 19-year-old said she often feels so overwhelmed by her situation that she wants to give up. “I just want to turn off my feelings,” she said.
A 21-year-old woman talked eloquently about the years that she feels the Australian government has robbed from her, and about how she has used her passion for music and arts to try and survive.
And in a short message, a 16-year-old described herself as “mentally broken”.
Five times this week where Malcolm Turnbull reached extra levels of petty that I aspire to
Surprising everyone with a leadership spill, knowing that his opposition hadn’t fully prepared and didn’t yet have the numbers
Refusing the call another party meeting so nobody could challenge his leadership
Insisting his opposers bring him a petition of 43 signatures before he calls another meeting
When he was brought the petition, making the whip call each number personally to confirm the signatures weren’t faked
Now that he’s lost his leadership, announcing he will resign from parliament, losing the Liberal party’s majority. Therefore (probably) triggering a new election, and (hopefully) kicking the Liberals out of leadership
