I fear sometimes that people sort of see me a certain way from some of these roles, and I can’t wait for the opportunity to be like, “I’m such a dork!” Really, really. I’m such a dork. I just pretend to be cool.
have you ever thought about how in the versions of the spider-man canon where Peter’s web shooting is accomplished by technology rather than being an actual superpower that means he really just….could have…very easily not done that. like he could have had any weapon. he could have had weapons he didn’t have to invent himself and build from scratch. but they wouldn’t have been spider-themed so he just. he did that. for the Aesthetic.
Peter saw he got bit by a spider and decided to die on that rock
“I have this really awful insecurity response where you just start dripping sweat. You try to be so nice, you’re like, ‘Yeah, yes it’s me. Thank you. Thank you, yes, great to meet you. Great great great.’ And you’re just literally turning into a sauna.”
Yikes. That’s…a choice, I guess. I’m very glad to be in this corner of the fandom where I’m surrounded by primarily queer and progressive voices.
idk about comics Cap, but for MCU Cap, “Captain America” was an identity he did not choose. It was given to him explicitly as propaganda. He accepted it because it was the only way he was allowed to help. I feel like any Republicans who like Cap because PATRIOTISM! are barking up the wrong tree.
Also, Steve doesn’t like bullies and Donald Trump is a huge fucking bully. Steve sticks up for the little guy. Trump makes fun of the little guy. Maybe in past political eras it’d be different but here and now I feel confident saying Steve Rogers would be disgusted by the Republican party and their Trump worship.
Comics Steve Rogers, skinny little kid from Brooklyn, was definitely a New Deal Democrat. Literally his issue 1 baddy was Hitler, and his issue 2 villain was corporate tax evaders. So yes. Steve Rogers definitely would be punching Trump. Twice. I don’t know what political party he would belong to in 2018, but I promise it’s not the GOP.
Oh, but there’s more!
During and after WW2, people who fought Nazis in Europe before their country entered the war were officially labeled “Premature Anti-Fascist”, and were often kept from the front lines. By virtue of having seen too clearly the evils to come, they were viewed with suspicion by the US government.
Steve Rogers punched Hitler in March of 1941. America didn’t enter the war until December of 1941. Steve Rogers was a Premature Anti-Fascist.
