jjjat3am:

Rewatching TWS has had me thinking about Maria Hill again. Because when it comes down to it, she’s the one who has to make the decision to destroy the helicarriers. She’s the one who pushes the button, despite the obvious pain it causes her. She makes the most important decision of the movie in a split second. If Steve had died…she would have carried that with her for the rest of her life.

It makes me wonder how much the two of them interacted before this? Was she the one who gave him his mission briefings or was that Fury or Natasha? Did they have their own in-jokes like:

“A nice day for political unrest, Agent Hill?” “Isn’t it always, Captain Rogers?”

“I saw you watching the new recruits, Captain. Care to share your thoughts?” “Nothing gets past you, does it Agent?” “Are you surprised?” “Are we going to keep talking in questions?” “Are you going to tell me what you think of the recruits?”

“You ruined your uniform again, Rogers. You know the logistics department hounds me for it.” “This coming from the woman who has a bullet in her shoulder. Now shut up and try to keep from bleeding out, Hill.”

Did they share shitty cold coffee at 3am, waiting for the next mission briefing? Did they try to beat each other’s high score at the shooting range? Did they roll their eyes at Fury together?

Because don’t forget that before Maria pushes the button, she calls him Steve. Not Captain. Not Rogers.

“But Steve…”

There’s history in that phrase and I want to know what it is.
